A new car called Polestar 5 is coming to the market. The price of the car and some new features have been announced.
The two-motor model will cost around 89,500 pounds. And the two-motor performance model will cost 104,900 pounds. In terms of price, it is much cheaper than the Porsche Taycan model. It will also be ahead in terms of power and how far it will go.
Polestar has redesigned and built the car to make it the best. Not only the car, but the team involved in it, the manufacturing plant, everything has been rebuilt.
Polestar is bringing this car to the market at a time when sales of such cars are a little low. But they hope that their new car will be liked by customers and sales will increase. Design
The Polestar 5 is built with Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA). It uses a special aluminum structure to make the car lighter and stronger. The car frame uses 13% recycled aluminum, which is good for the environment.
The company’s chief talked about working on climate change and asked European leaders to focus on reducing pollution.
Good suspension and Michelin tires have been used to increase the car’s speed and other performance capabilities. These can range in size from 20 to 22 inches.
Inside the car, there is a 14.5-inch screen behind the steering wheel and a smaller 9-inch display. In addition, there is a 9.5-inch head-up display on the windshield, which helps keep the driver’s attention. There is also a camera to keep an eye on the driver.
There are many sensors and cameras in the front of the car, which work like radar and parking cameras. It has 11 cameras, a camera to keep an eye on the driver, a radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors. It can detect the number of passengers and their seating positions to reduce accidents.
The car has Brembo brakes for good braking, Bowers & Wilkins for a great sound system, and Bridge of Wire Nappa leather for a beautiful interior. MobileEye technology has been used to assist the driver and Google software has been used for the infotainment system.
The car is usually made for four people, but the armrest of the rear seat can be raised to accommodate an additional passenger. For the convenience of rear passengers, a small space has been cut out in the battery area behind the front seat, so that they can put their feet.
Price & Availability
The Polestar 5 is not yet on the market. It is expected to be available in early 2026. The price of the car has not yet been announced, but it is certain that the price will be very high. It is believed that the price of this car in North America may exceed $ 100,000.
The company has sold quite well this year, as it has given many discounts, especially for Tesla owners. The company also makes the Polestar 2, Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models.
The prices of these Swedish-designed cars under the Geely company may increase due to taxes. Polestar builds cars in the US and China and plans to build the Polestar 4 in Korea by 2025. It has not yet said where the Polestar 5 will be built.
Despite these problems, Polestar is moving forward. A new sports car called the Polestar 6 will come to the market, which will have an open roof. This car is expected to go on sale in 2026 and will be similar to the Polestar 5.
Power
The Polestar 5 will be available in two trims:
Dual Motor: This model will have 748 horsepower, which will take 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
Performance Package: This model will have 884 horsepower, which will take 3.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
Both models will have a top speed of 155 mph.
The car uses a new 800-volt battery, which will help it charge very quickly. Using a good charger, it will charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes. The dual motor model can go up to 670 kilometers on a single charge, while the performance model can go up to 565 kilometers.
The Polestar 5’s battery will have 112 kilowatt-hours of power, of which 106 kilowatt-hours can be used. The battery is made up of eight parts and it also helps in the protection of the car.
Battery
The Polestar 5 uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 112 kW (total) and 106 kW (usable), which runs on an 800V electrical system. The company says it supports fast charging up to 350kW and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
While the Polestar’s charging capacity seems higher on paper than the Porsche, the Porsche Taycan’s battery pack is slightly smaller and the charging speed is more stable. Auto Express’s tests showed that the Porsche Taycan can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, and this car charges very quickly in reality.
What else happened during development?
The designers faced two major challenges when developing the Polestar 5.
First, the decision to change the battery chemistry was made about halfway through the design. This wasted a lot of time, although previous experience was useful.
Second, the previous CEO (and car designer) Thomas Engsenlath suggested a reduction in the car’s wheelbase a few weeks before the design was finalized. This not only changed the size of the doors, but also the angle of the car’s windscreen and required a complete redesign of the interior.
These changes made the already difficult task even more difficult. In the meantime, sales of major cars like the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-tron GT were declining. There were also concerns that similar-sized cars like the Lotus Emiya were not selling well and that some models would be canceled.
